Financial rehabilitation is the process of rehabilitating an individual out of unemployment and helping him have sustainable means of living.
Need for cancer patients to have financial rehabilitation: Cancer impacts the earning capabilities of families in as high as 90% cases. This is either because of the bread earner being a patient or a care giver. The stigma associated with cancer, long duration of treatment and associated migration for treatment and follow up acts as a barrier between them and their livelihood. Global surveys done by renowned organizations like Livestrong Foundation and American Cancer Society have confirmed that this a global phenomenon.
Even after the treatment is complete, many of the recruiters do not hire cancer survivors because of the apprehension associated with their health and their medical history.
Therefore, most of the cancer survivors struggle to find financial stability post the expensive treatment which takes a poll on them socially and economically.
Win Over Cancer’s financial rehabilitation plan: The objective of the program is to restore a basic minimum but sustainable earnings for the family in the shortest possible time. In most of these cases, existing bread earners are not able to work regularly for a long period of time. Therefore, we aim at creating alternate sources of earnings for such families. This is done by enabling other members of the family to be bread earners. In case they lack the required qualification, skills or experience, we attach them to a skill center near their residence and tr to bridge this gap.
For the purpose, Win Over Cancer have successfully collaborated with institutions like NSDC and Tally Educations and Others with over 65 thousand skill-development centers all over the country through which beneficiaries can gain skills in more than 820 domains and eventually get employed/ self - employed.
National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)
The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is an Indian not-for-profit company set up to address the need for providing skilled manpower across various industry sectors. It was founded in 2009 by Ministry of Finance.
The NSDC was set up as a Public Private Partnership Company in order to create and fund vocational training institutions, and create support systems for skills development.
In light of the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax in 2017, NSDC and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) collaborated to train over 100,000 people as GST experts to help the corporate sector with accounts work. The NDSC has trained more than 5.2 million students, and it has also created 235 private sector partnerships and 38 Sector Skill Councils (SSC) in various industries.
It is estimated that by 2022 India will need an additional 104 million people in the workforce with a further 298 million requiring upgrade in training. To address this NSDC has started skill development initiatives in North East India, with a target of training 240,000 people in 2017-18.
NSDC has also partnered with Amazon’s "meri saheli" initiative to improve the digital literacy of women. Together with Google India, it has launched a program to train people on mobile development, via a 100-hour course to be delivered though partner agencies.
NSDC also signed a collaboration with the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs to train people within CSR, corporate governance, business innovation, e-governance and other skills. Other partners include the Adani Foundation, Uber and Maruti.
